Yakima FlipSide Recall Information

Dear Yakima Customer:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Yakima Products has decided that a defect that relates to motor vehicle safety exists in the FlipSide bike carrier.


The FlipSide bike carrier is being recalled.

In the interest of ensuring absolute safety with our products, we ask that you remove this product from your vehicle.

Why is a recall being conducted?

A small number of units shipped from April 2008 through June 2011 have malfunctioned. In these instances, the FlipSide’s upright mast has folded to the side while the vehicle is in motion.

All FlipSides produced since 2008 and having a red pull-pin knob are affected by this recall.

What are we doing about the problem?

Yakima is sending a user-installed upgrade kit at no charge to consumers. This kit takes about 15 minutes to install and replaces the retention pin with a longer one.
